Above are some of the figure drawings I did during the two weeks we spent learning from Tommy Van Auken and drawing from live models. I love this experience every year, and am glad we were able to spend so much time with it. Tommy consistently told us about the importance of searching lines within and outside of the figure, which I tried to implement into my work. This technique helped me achieve depth, even in the undeveloped short drawings. I had a lot of fun exploring the feeling of different mediums, including charcoal pencil, cante crayon, and charcoal sticks, and seeing how I could achieve depth and shadow with each of them. The drawings above include one cante drawing, one charcoal drawing, and two charcoal pencil drawings. I'm excited to implement the skills I practiced during these lessons in my future work, even in pieces not including figures.
